Bathing suit… check… toothbrush… check… makeup… check…

I was currently going over my checklist for the bachelor/bachelorette party. My flight was leaving at seven in the morning. I wanted to make sure that I had everything. The planning of the trip wasn’t so bad, because I dealt mostly with Keyonna’s maid and matron, but it was some things that I had to run by Keyonna. That was a pain. She didn’t agree with anything I suggested and shot down all my ideas as if she knew Marcus as well as I did.

Keyonna wanted to do things in the way she thought that Marcus would enjoy, but every idea she threw out, I knew he wouldn’t like, but maybe she knew something I didn’t. Instead of incorporating my ideas, I just went along with hers. She was his future wife after all.

Tonight, she was coming over to show me a museum to add to the itinerary for the bachelor’s side of things, but I knew this was going to be a fail. Knowing Marcus, I knew he would rather spend majority of his time on the water, drinking, grilling, and hanging with his people, not this sightseeing shit she was on. I was thankful that Erika was coming along, even though she wasn’t in the wedding party. She refused to let me go by myself. I would tell her all the slick shade that Keyonna had been throwing since the day she called me before the engagement party. That didn’t sit right with Erika, and she didn’t want me by myself around Keyonna and her homegirls just in case they tried to jump me. Erika took ride or die to a whole new level.

My phone started to ring, and I thought it was Keyonna letting me know she was at my place, but it was her brother.

“Hey, Kev.”

“What’s up, beautiful? What you got going on?” His deep voice blared through the speakerphone. There was background noise, which let me know he was in the studio, probably producing another SoundCloud track.

“Packing for the trip, making sure I am dotting my i’s and crossing my t’s.”

“You always so prim and proper. I ain’t even sweating. I’m just going to throw in some basketball shorts, swimming trunks, toothbrush, and drawers.” I rolled my eyes. Kevin was fine and his head game was grade A, but he was so nonchalant about shit. His only concern was rapping and going live. We didn’t relate to anything. Kevin slept until noon, and by noon I had lunch and was almost finished with my workday. His idea of gourmet dining was taking me to Cracker Barrel and making sure I ordered a water with lemon. I didn’t see myself being in a serious relationship, but he was great company to keep, plus he kept me laughing.

Kevin called my name, pulling me from my thoughts. “Lil’ mama, you heard me?”

“No, I’m sorry. What did you say?”

“I said stop packing and come lay a verse on the track. Let the world know you fucking with the next Lil Baby, NBA YoungBoy, Moneybagg Yo.
